Women's Soccer picked up a win in its first-ever Heart matchup with the Park University Pirates.
The Ravens knocked off the Pirates 5-0 at Legacy Field.
The Ravens opened the scoring 7 minutes into the contest. Natalie Duque's shot inside the box deflected off the crossbar and Rachel Beffa was there to bury the rebound into the back of the net, putting the Ravens up 1-0.
Beffa wasted little time adding to the Ravens lead. Annabelle Hoog passed backward from the Park box, Beffa took a dribble and then launched a left-footed shot toward goal, which deflected off a Park defender and into the net. Ten minutes into the match, the Ravens held a 2-0 lead.
Paulina Carles continued the early scoring barrage for the Ravens. Madeline Stewart sent a high shot on goal that was saved by Felicitas Mueller, but Carles was right there to knock in the rebound to put the Ravens up 3-0. It was the sixth goal of the season for Carles, the most of any Ravens.
The Ravens continued to dominate possession the remainder of the half and carried their 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
It didn't take the Ravens long to find their scoring touch in the second half. Four minutes into the half, Madeline Stewart lined up a deep shot outside the box, beating Mueller to give the Ravens a 4-0 lead.
The final goal of the night came thanks to Natalie Duque, who played off a deflected shot to put the Ravens up 5-0. The Ravens had 24 shots in the match, compared to just 11 for the Pirates.
Olivia Berry played 61 minutes in goal for the Ravens, notching 4 saves. Ashley Rehagen played the final 29 minutes and had 3 saves in goal to combine with Berry for the shutout.
While this was the first time the Ravens squared off with the Pirates in Heart of America play, the two sides have played numerous times prior to Park joining the Heart this season. The Ravens have now won the last nine contests dating back to the 2010 season.
The Ravens are now 6-1 on the season. They'll take on MidAmerica Nazarene University Wednesday, Oct. 21 in Olathe.
