Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late goal from Clarke gives Women's Soccer 2-1 loss in fall home finale

Women's Soccer dropped a tough contest in the fall home finale at Legacy Field Wednesday night.

The Clarke Pride beat the Ravens 2-1, scoring a goal with less than 10 minutes to play to earn the win.

The Ravens mostly controlled possession in the opening 45 minutes, but it was Clarke that took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Ravens had 13 shots, seven on goal, in the first half compared to just three for the Pride. But Shannon Catchur's shot slipped off the hands of Ravens keeper Ashley Rehagen, and Samantha Brookens was there to clean up the rebound into the open net.

The goal was the first time the Pride have scored against the Ravens since joining the Heart of America Conference in 2016.

Annabelle Hoog leveled the score in the first 5 minutes of the second half. When a ball was sent into the box, it deflected off several players from both sides and Hoog was able to head it into the net, evening the score 1-1 with 40:20 to play.

Olivia Berry, taking over in net in the second half for the Ravens, kept the game tied with a diving save at 37:30.

But the Pride netted a second, and ultimately game-winning goal with 7 minutes left to play. Lindsay Wardlow found a free ball on the left side of the box and lofted a cross towards goal, finding Catchur for a header that beat Berry.

The Ravens pressed forward the final 7 minutes of action, but there wouldn't be an equalizer. They finished with 23 shots, 13 on goal, but weren't able to find that final connection for a second goal. Berry made two saves in the second half, Rehagen had one save in the first half. Clarke recorded seven-shot, six of which came on goal.

The Ravens (7-3-1) will close out the fall portion of its schedule at Mount Mercy on Wednesday. Nov. 18.
