Ravens Football dominated the Missouri Valley College Vikings Saturday afternoon at Larry Wilcox Stadium.
The Ravens shut out the Vikings, 37-0, the fourth-straight win against MVC dating back to 2017.
The Ravens defense has been stout all season and that was the case again Saturday. Entering the game, the defense allowed just 263 yards per game to opposing offenses. That number was lowered after the Ravens held the Vikings to 247 yards. The Ravens also recovered a fumble and had an interception.
Offensively, the Ravens leaned on a strong game by Rayshon Mills. The running back had 156 yards on 25 carries as the Ravens rushed for 272 yards as a team. Luke Laskowski had 186 passing yards.
The teams were scoreless through the first quarter, but the Ravens offense started clicking in the second quarter. Matt Heinrich's 30-yard field goal got the scoring started in the second quarter, and a Laskowski touchdown pass to Alex Blake gave the Ravens a 10-0 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Konner Walker sacked MVC's Darrion Cole, forcing a fumble on the play that was recovered by James Mullen at the Vikings 5-yard line. On the first offensive play after the turnover, Laskowski connected with Ethan Bechard to put the Ravens up 17-0.
Later in the third quarter, Mills burst through the middle for a 3-yard touchdown run as the Ravens grabbed total control of the game.
The scoring continued in the fourth quarter. Laskowski found Bechard for another touchdown pass, this time from 36 yards out. Keegan Hoopes closed out the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run.
The Ravens defense had five sacks in the game, bumping up their total to 32 sacks on the season. They entered the contest with the fourth-highest sack total in the NAIA. Evan Aguilar, Carter Howes, Brett Shepardson, Walker, and Mullen all got in on pass rush. Keon Boulware had six solo tackles and Jalen James added four solo tackles and assisted on four more.
The win improves the Ravens record to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in Heart of America South Division play. The final contest of the fall will be at noon on Thursday, Nov. 26 – Thanksgiving Day – against the Baker Wildcats. Baker has had several games postponed but is the only other team in the Heart South without a conference loss. The Thanksgiving matchup will be played at O'Malley Field in Atchison.
