SALINA – The season got underway over the week for Men's Basketball as they split a pair of games host by Kansas Wesleyan University.
Friday, the Ravens earned an 80-73 win over Southwestern College before falling Saturday afternoon to Kansas Wesleyan, 75-71.
Against the Moundbuilders on Friday, the Ravens held off a late push to earn the seven-point win. Leading by 13 at the half, the Ravens were outscored 42-36 in the second half.
The Ravens used a 45.2 percent shooting effort in the first half, which included 8 3-pointers, to build their halftime advantage. While they still shot 44.4 percent in the second half to finish the game at 44.8 percent, they converted just two more 3-pointers in the second half.
Eric Krus finished the game with 23 points of 9 of 15 shooting. Matt Austin and Jayden Temme both added 11 points while Jaiden Bristol and Nysir Scott scored 9 points each.
Against the Coyotes, the Ravens trailed by six points at the half. The quick erased that deficit early in the second half to lead three times before KWU went on a 10-0 to pull ahead of Benedictine. The Ravens managed to get within a basket multiple times over the final six minutes of the game but just couldn't overcome the run by the Coyotes as they fell by four points.
Temme led the Ravens with 19 points off 8 of 15 shooting. Krus and Austin added 12 points each while Chris Jackson finished with 9 to round out the Ravens top scorers.
The Ravens host Avila University today at 7 p.m. in the first of a three-game homestand over the next two weeks.
