Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Solid second half leads to fifth win for Men's Basketball

MARSHALL, Mo. – The Raven Men's Basketball team earned their fifth win of the season on Saturday as they used a solid second half to pull ahead of Missouri Valley College.

Tied at 39-39 at the half, the Ravens hit 53.3 percent from beyond the 3-point arc while adding 9 of 12 free throws as they earned the 84-77 win over the Vikings.

After falling behind early, the Ravens rallied to take their second lead of the game off a 3-pointer from Eric Krus inside the first two minutes of the game. It would be a sign of things to come for Krus throughout the game.

Benedictine built as much as a 14-point lead on Missouri Valley before the Vikings closed the half outscoring the Ravens 19-5 to pull the game even headed into halftime.

Much like the start of the game, Missouri Valley pulled ahead to start the second half. Another 3-pointer from Krus pulled Benedictine back ahead, 45-44 minutes in the half. The lead was short-lived for the Ravens as the Vikings pulled back ahead only to have Krus knock down another 3-pointer to give the Ravens a 55-53 lead.

Tied at 66 with nine minutes left in the game, Krus held spark the Ravens from beyond the arc. Over the next four and half minutes of the game, he connected on another three 3-pointers that allowed the Ravens to pull ahead by 9 points. From there, the Ravens were able to keep the Vikings at arm's length from the free throw line as they converted 8 of 10 down the stretch to earn the seven-point win.

Krus led the Ravens in scoring, setting a new career-high with 30 points. He finished with 8 3-pointers, which also set a new single-game career-high. Matt Austin scored 19 hitting 4 of 8 from beyond the arc while Tyson Cathy added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Ravens return home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to take on MNU as they play three of their next four games at home to close out the semester.
