Baseball continues homestand with 10-run win over Ottawa (Kan.) University

The Raven Baseball team continued their perfect start to their 2020 home schedule on Tuesday with a run-rule shortened 12-2 win over Ottawa (Kan.) University.

Benedictine set new single-game highs in runs scored, hits and RBI as they earned their fifth win in five games at on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium.

The Ravens struck first, scoring two runs in the second inning before the Braves answered with runs in the fourth and fifth. The game didn't stay tied long as the Ravens scored two in the fifth and four in each of the sixth and seventh innings to score 10 unanswered to end the game during the seventh inning by way of the 10-run-rule.

Ryan Cox earned his first start of the season on the hill for the Ravens. He pitched into the fifth inning before leaving after four and two-thirds innings. Cox gave up two runs off four hits with two strikeouts before giving way to Dillon Elliot, who got the Ravens out of the fifth on just two pitches. Hunter Ostertage and Isaac Rudolph finished off the game combining to throw the final two innings. Elliot earned the win as he was the pitcher of record when the Ravens regained the lead with their two-run fifth inning.

Five Ravens finished with at least two hits at the plate as the Ravens scored their 12 runs off 12 hits. Drew Piontek, Michael Slaten and Daryl Myers each recorded a double while Michael Slaten added a two-run home run. Piontek and Jackson Doherty both finished with three hits as Doherty led the Ravens with 6 RBI. Jacob Pavlyak added an RBI while Nathan Huber finished with two.

The Ravens are off until Friday when they are scheduled to host the University of St Mary at 2:30 p.m. The single 9-inning game with the Spires kicks off a three-day stretch of games on Laughlin Field as Benedictine hosts St. Mary and Concordia (Neb.) University on Saturday and Sunday.
