Baseball earns Tuesday sweep over Dordt University Defenders

The Raven Baseball team continued their home winning streak on Tuesday as they picked up a sweep over the Dordt University Defenders.

In a doubleheader added to the schedule after the Ravens weren't able to play against (RV) Concordia University over the weekend, the Ravens walked off Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium with a pair of wins, 9-2 and 10-1 to move to 9-3 on the year.

In the opener, the Ravens broke the game open with nine unanswered in the forth and fifth innings. That would be plenty of support for Mark Hartley, who threw a complete-game four hitter to earn the win on the hill. He finished with four strikeouts, allowing one earned run over seven innings.

At the plate, the Ravens finished with 10 hits. Jordan Williams went 3 for 4 with a double and RBI, Danny Favazza went 2 for 2 with a double and RBI and Jacob Pavlyak went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Nathan Huber added a double and two RBI while Austin Watamaniuk accounted for two RBI off a 1-for-3 effort at the plate.

In game two, the Ravens struck first in the fifth inning in support of Matthew Gephardt. Gephardt earned the win, throwing five innings with five strikeouts. He gave up one run off four hits before giving way to Jacob Curry and Ben Hankammer in relief. Curry and Hankammer held the Defenders scoreless over the final two innings of play with Curry recording three strikeouts.

At the plate, the Ravens added 10 more hits to finish the day with 20 overall. Favazza went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI. Jackson Doherty added a double while scoring three runs with Michael Slaten adding two RBI. Watamaniuk and Williams were credited with an RBI each to round out the Ravens offensive efforts.

Benedictine remains at home on Saturday and Sunday as they are scheduled to host Saint Ambrose University in a four-game series back at Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium. First pitch both days is scheduled for Noon.
