CONWAY, Ark. – Central Baptist College took a three-game series over the Raven Baseball team on Friday and Saturday as Benedictine opened up their 2020 campaign.
Game one went to the Mustangs 13-2 on Friday before the Ravens dropped the Saturday doubleheader, 7-4 and 13-5.
Michael Kruse earned the start in the season opener on Friday. He went three and one-third in the loss giving up two earned runs off four hits. Of the 13 runs allowed on Friday, five were unearned as the Ravens committed two errors defensively.
At the plate, the Ravens were held to just three hits. Daryl Myers recorded two of the three with a double and a home run while Jordan Williams picked up the third hit.
Saturday's opener saw Jacob Slaten earn the start on the hill for the Ravens. He went four and two-thirds in the loss. He finished with eight strikeouts while giving up five runs off four hits.
At the plate, the Ravens finished with nine hits. Michael Slaten went 3 for 4 with a double, a home run and three RBI. Brandon Van Beceleare also recorded a home run, his first career homer as a Raven, while Jacob Pavlyak added a double. Van Beceleare and Pavlyak finished with two hits each.
In the series finale, Mark Hartley earned the start. He went five innings to earn the loss, giving up three runs off five hits with five strikeouts. In total, the Ravens used seven pitchers in the loss.
At the plate, Michael Slaten picked up two more home runs to go with three RBIs while Myers added another home runs as the Ravens were held to just five hits.
Benedictine is slated to open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday as they host a series with Southwestern College and Doane University. Weather permitting, Benedictine takes on Daone College at 10 a.m. on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium before taking on Southwestern at 3 p.m. Doane and Southwestern are scheduled fo play at 12:30 p.m.
