A late rally came up short for (RV) Men's Basketball at home Wednesday.
The Ravens lost to the Missouri Valley College Vikings 74-68 to move to 13-10 on the season and 11-6 in Heart of America play.
The Ravens found themselves down 43-29 with 15:33 to play in the second half but began to turn things around, starting with a pair of free throws by Jayden Temme. That was followed by a basket from Nysir Scott and a 3-pointer by Eric Krus. Then Jaiden Bristol converted a layup, was fouled and sank the free throw to complete a 10-0 run, cutting Valley's lead to 43-39.
The Vikings had an answer, though, taking a 68-55 lead with 2:22 to play.
The Ravens made another rally, cutting the Vikings lead to 3 points thanks to 3-pointers by Temme and Scott, then a layup by Temme. The Vikings were able to hang onto the lead, making enough free throws down the stretch to hang on to the 6-point win.
The Ravens had a bit of a slow start as the Vikings jumped out to a 10-2 lead to start the game. However, they bounced back thanks to a couple of fast-break buckets by Wills Wallrapp and Jaiden Bristol, plus a 3-pointer by Krus. By the first half media timeout, the Vikings lead was down to 17-14.
Hunter Schneider gave the Ravens their first, and only, lead of the game, 21-19 with 6:45 to play before half, but the Vikings finished the half on a 16-4 run to take a 35-25 lead into halftime.
The Ravens had 10 turnovers in the opening half, setting up the Vikings for 10 points off those turnovers. The Vikings also made 5-of-10 3-pointers while the Ravens were just 2-7 from deep. The right players took the right shots for the Ravens, they just wouldn't go down. Both teams had 17 rebounds at the break. The halftime deficit proved to be a bad omen, as the Ravens would drop to 2-10 on the season when trailing at the half.
Scott led the Ravens with 12 points while Matt Austin added 11 and Krus had 10 points. The Ravens had 22 turnovers in the game.
Next up for the Ravens will be the Mount Mercy Mustangs at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8.
