Ravens Baseball split an inter-divisional Heart of America doubleheader Saturday afternoon at home.
The Ravens dropped Game 1 to the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats 12-9, then won Game 2 6-5.
In Game 1, the Ravens and Wildcats were tied 6-6 entering the sixth inning, but CSC was able to plate 6 runs to take command of the game. The Ravens answered with 3 runs in the bottom half of the frame but were held scoreless in the seventh inning, losing by 3.
Michael Kruse went 5 innings for the Ravens, giving up 5 earned runs and striking out eight batters. Dillon Elliott, Ben Costello, and Isaac Rudolph combined for the final six outs on the mound.
Jacob Slaten, Michael Slaten, Austin Watamaniuk, Jacob Pavlyak, and Jackson Field all recorded two hits in the first game, with Jacob Slaten notching two doubles. Michael Slaten had a triple and 3 RBIs.
The Ravens bounced back in Game 2, jumping out to a 4-1 lead after four innings of play. The Wildcats answered with 3 runs in the fifth to level the score, 4-4, but Pavlyak led off the bottom of the frame with a double and Danny Favazza followed that up with a single. Field stepped to the plate with two outs and knocked a 2-run single to give the lead back to the Ravens.
Jacob Curry pitched the seventh inning to close out the game, giving up 1 run. He induced a ground out to finish off the contest, giving the Ravens a 6-5 win.
Mark Hartley got the start on the bump in the second game, pitching 4.1 innings and giving up 4 earned runs. Costello and Rudolph bridged the gap between Hartley and Curry, going 1.2 innings without allowing a run.
Pavlyak and Favazza were the leaders at the plate as each recorded three hits in Game 2. Field had 3 RBIs in the game, including the clutch two-out, 2-run single in the fifth inning.
The Ravens are 12-7 on the season, and 1-1 in Heart of America play. Conference action continues Sunday, March 1, as the Ravens host Clarke University in a doubleheader at Laughlin Field and Olsen Stadium. Game 1 begins at noon.
