The Raven Baseball team hit the road for their second set of Heart cross-divisional doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday as they took on Grand View University and William Penn University.
On Saturday, the Ravens split their doubleheader with Grand View in Des Moines falling in game one, 10-2 before taking game two, 6-4. On Sunday, the Ravens also split their doubleheader with William Penn in Oskaloosa, Iowa, taking game one, 17-5, before falling in game two, 4-3.
Game 1: Grand View 10, Benedictine 2.
The Vikings scored five earned runs off the Ravens starting pitcher Michael Kruse en route to their game one win. Kruse went three and two-thirds to suffer the loss after giving up a total of seven runs off nine hits with two strikeouts.
The Ravens were kept in check at the plate, limited by Vikings starters Parker Thode. Michael Slaten and Jacob Slaten recorded an RBI each while Jackson Doherty added a triple.
Game 2: Benedictine 6, Grand View 4.
The Ravens scored five runs in the sixth and seventh inning en route to the win.
Mark Hartley threw a complete game for the Ravens on the hill. He gave up four runs off seven hits with six strikeouts to earn the win.
Jacob Slaten led the Ravens with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate as he recorded a double and a triple with two RBI. Danny Favazza and Michael Slaten each recorded a double while Jacob Pavlyak added a triple.
Game 1: Benedictine 17, William Penn 5.
The Ravens exploded for 15 hits to score their 17 runs – both new single-game highs for the team as they earned the opening win over the Statesmen.
Isaac Rudolph earned the win in relief of Ben Hankammer. Rudolph threw four innings in relief, giving up four hits while striking out four.
Drew Piontek went 3 for 4 for the Ravens with two home runs and four RBI to anchor Benedictine's offensive explosion at the plate. Michael Slaten went 1 for 3 with four RBI. Jacob Slaten added a two-run home run while Favazza, Austin Watamaniuk, Garrett Romero and Pavlyak all finished with a double with Favazza and Romero added two RBI each.
Game 2: William Penn 4, Benedictine 3.
The Statesmen earned the split with the Ravens, scoring four runs off eight hits and Matthew Gephardt suffered the loss on the hill. He scattered four runs off eight hits over six innings in the loss.
Benedictine was limited to just four hits in the loss. Micahel Slaten went 2 for 3 with a double. Jacob Slaten added a triple while Favazza added a double and RBI.
The Ravens are scheduled to step out of Heart play on Thursday on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium against Olivet Nazarene University before traveling to Olathe for a three-game divisional series with MNU on Friday and Saturday.
