DUBUQUE, Iowa – After a delay to the start of their season, the Raven Football opened up 2020 with an impressive win on Saturday over Heart North opponent Clarke University.
Benedictine (1-0) used a balanced offensive attack that accounted for 418 yards while recording six interceptions on defense as they earned a 38-0 win over the Pride.
The Ravens scored five touchdowns, throwing for three while rushing for two. Benedictine used two quarterbacks throughout the opener and both Luke Laskowski and Garett Kettle connected on touchdown passes. Laskowski put the Ravens on the board first with a 25-yard pass to Tre Adger early in the first quarter. Kettle found Adger for a 23-yard pass in the second quarter and then connected Alex Blake on a 63-yard pass in the third quarter. Damon Wigand (5 yards) and Marlon Moore (10 yards) accounted for the Ravens two rushing touchdowns.
Of Benedictine's 418 yards of total offense,192 came on the ground while 226 came through the air. Kettle led the Ravens with 71 yards rushing off 10 carries while also lead them with 190 yards off 9 of 12 through the air. Wigand finished with 49 yards off 11 carries on the ground while Laskowski added 36 yards passing of 4 of 10 through the air. Blake was the Ravens leading receiver with 105 yards off four receptions while Adger finished with 63 yards off three receptions.
Benedictine added a 30-yard field goal off the foot of Teagan Trammel midway through the fourth quarter to cap off the Ravens scoring on the day.
Defensively, the Ravens held the Pride to 281 yards on offense and limited Clarke to just 68 yards rushing off 23 carries. The Ravens picked up the Pride quarterback tandem of Brandon Mueller and Tim Evitt a total of six times with both quarterbacks throwing three interceptions each. Joel Mewis, Adam Wilburs, Konner Walker, Tyler Tierney, Zach Gill, and Keon Boulware recorded the interceptions for the Raven defense. Tierney and Joshua Morris led the Ravens in tackles with six. The unit also accounted for two sacks for a loss of 11 yards and eight tackles for a loss of 24 yards. Dwayne Lacy and Connor Haynes recorded one sack each.
The Ravens return to O'Malley Field for their home opener on Saturday at 1 p.m. as they host Culver-Stockton College.
