Hot start sparks 38-point win for Men's Basketball over Evangel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The (RV) Men's Basketball team picked up a solid road win on Wednesday night over the Evangel University Crusaders.

Benedictine (11-3, 8-2 Heart) connected on their first 9 shots as they opened the game outscoring Evangel 23-10. The Ravens finished the game with season highs in field goal percent and 3-point percent en route to an 87-49 win.

The Ravens didn't miss their shot of the game until the 12:53 mark of the first half, but even then, it was rebounded by Tyson Cathy with led to another made 3-pointer.

Benedictine finished the first half shooting 58.6 percent off 17 of 29 shooting with 8 3-pointers and a perfect 4 of 4 at the free throw line. They held Evangel to just 8 first-half field goals and just 25.8 percent shooting.

Not to be outdone, the Ravens upped their shooting percent in the second half, connecting on 60 percent from the floor with another 5 3-pointers and a 6 of 9 effort from the charity stripe.

Matt Austin, who got the game going with its first basket, finished with a game-high 14 points for the Ravens. Nysir Scott anchored the Ravens off the bench, finishing with 13. The Raven bench nearly outscored the entirety of the Crusaders as they finished with a total of 42 points. As a team, the Ravens finished the game hitting 59.3 percent from the floor with a 54.2 percent effort from beyond the 3-point arc.

Benedictine remains on the road for their next conference matchup, traveling to Parkville, Mo., on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game against Park University. The Ravens earned a 75-67 win over the Pirates inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium in their first meeting of the year on Dec. 2.
