CANTON, Mo. – The (RV) Raven Women's Basketball team shot 46.2 percent from the field in the fourth quarter while hitting both 3-pointers and all five free throws against Culver-Stockton College.
The fourth-quarter effort capped off a comeback effort that gave Benedictine (13-5, 11-3 Heart) a 52-46 win over the Wildcats.
Benedictine got a spark offensively off the bench against Culver-Stockton. Anchored by a team-high 10 points from Aaliyah Raines, the Ravens finished the game with a 31-14 advantage off the bench. Raines scored 7 of her 10 points in the fourth quarter as she went 2 for 2 from the floor with a 3-for-3 effort at the free throw line.
Scoring was at a premium early on Wednesday night. It took nearly three minutes for either team to score. Benedictine pulled ahead by as much as four points twice before the Wildcats got their offense going to lead 11-9 at the end of the quarter. The Wildcats remained in the lead throughout the second quarter, pushing their advantage to as much as nine points early in the third quarter.
Benedictine erased the Culver-Stockton advantage by closing out the third quarter on a 13-4 run, but still trailed headed into the fourth quarter. Back-to-back baskets from Sam Brennan and Heather Ronnebaum pulled the Ravens ahead for the first time since early in the game with just over 7 minutes remaining and never gave that lead back up en route to the six-point win.
Kynli Nelson added 9 points to Raines' 10 off the bench while Skylar Washington finished with 7. Kiara Smith pulled in a game-high 10 rebounds as the Ravens finished with a 42-32 advantage on the glass.
Benedictine returns home on Saturday for a 2 p.m. meeting with Grand View University as they celebrate Senior Day between their game and the Raven Men's game.
