Ravens Men's Soccer lost a hard-fought match at home Saturday night.
The Ravens were beaten 3-2 by the Graceland University Yellowjackets.
Graceland got an early goal to start the night, scoring in the 5th minute. Hugo Chagas sent a ball forward and Raphael Salles was able to knock it past Carlos Flores in the Ravens goal.
Graceland doubled their lead with 18:01 left in the opening half. Alonso Campos sent a free-kick into the box that Jack Leeming headed in for a goal to make it 2-0, visitors.
The Ravens got a much-needed answer late in the first half. With just over 2 minutes to play before halftime, Carson Wilcox sent a corner into the box and Girma Kassa used his chest to guide it into the net. With the goal, the Ravens halftime deficit was 2-1.
Riding the momentum of their goal late in the first half, the Ravens found the equalizer 2 minutes into the second half. Kwame Parry got to a ball in the box and sent it towards the middle, finding Kassa who was able to tap it in to tie the match 2-2 with 43 minutes to play.
With 33:52 left to play, Graceland earned a Penalty Kick when the Ravens were whistled for a foul in the box. Nicolo Monacelli stepped to the spot and converted, putting the Yellowjackets back in front, 3-2.
Needing an equalizer once again, the Ravens pushed their attack. They created several chances, including a shot by Kassa that went off the side netting of the goal and a shot by Robert Mike Keon that ricocheted off the crossbar, but a third goal wasn't in the cards. The Ravens had 14 shots, with 6 on goal. They had 10 corner kicks in the match, as well.
In goal, Flores made 2 saves.
The Ravens (6-8-1, 3-6-1 Heart) will have another tough challenge when they travel for a game at (17) Baker University on Wednesday, Oct. 27.
