Football earns 10-point win over Missouri Valley in Heart South play

Ravens Football bounced back with a win on Saturday.

The Ravens defeated the Missouri Valley College Vikings 47-37 at home.

A 20-point Ravens halftime lead was maintained for most of the second half before the Vikings scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns to tighten the score.

The Ravens took a 23-3 halftime lead thanks to a last-second touchdown strike from Garrett Kettle to Tre Adger. With 3.5 seconds left on the clock, Kettle rolled to his left and fired to the end zone, and Adger jumped up and snagged the pass for the score that helped give the Ravens a 20-point lead at the break.

The first score of the game came from the defense. The Ravens forced a fourth down deep in MVC territory. The snap was high and the Vikings punter kicked the ball out of the back of the end zone to give the Ravens a 2-0 lead.

Later in the first quarter, Kettle connect on his first long passing touchdown of the day, this one a 50-yard strike to Reed Levi.

Kettle continued the scoring in the second quarter, rushing in from 7-yards out to give the Ravens a 16-0 lead.

After the Vikings knocked in a field goal, the Ravens scored the final points of the first half on the final-play pass from Kettle to Adger.

The second half began as the first half ended; Kettle found Adger for another long touchdown pass, this time for a 67-yard score. Adger finished the game with 6 receptions for 171 yards and two touchdowns.

The Vikings answered with a touchdown pass later in the third quarter to make it 37-16 in favor of the Ravens heading into the final quarter.

Kettle started the final frame with a 5-yard rushing score, then the Vikings scored two-straight touchdowns. After a Sam Wilber Ravens field goal, the Vikings scored again on a touchdown pass with 45 seconds to play. However, it was too little too late and the Ravens won 47-37.

Kettle finished with 351 yards and 4 touchdowns through the air, adding 49 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground. Damon Wigand was the Ravens leading rusher with 56 yards. Adding to Adger's big game through the air, Reed Levi had 81 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns.

Defensively, a trio of Ravens led the way as Joshua Morris, Jalen James, and Gavin Spangler each totaled 9 tackles. Tyler Tierney was in on 6 tackles, and he and Morris each recorded two pass break-ups. Spangler and Soloman Wallace each had a sack.

The Ravens (5-3, 1-1 Heart South) will hit the road next week to take on (6) Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas.
