Ravens Women's Soccer jumped on top early and cruised to an easy win at home Saturday night.
The No. 20 Ravens knocked off the Mount Mercy University Mustangs 5-0 to finish the regular season on a positive note.
The Ravens got the attack going early, earning a Penalty Kick 4 minutes into the match. Megan Homoly knocked in to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead. A minute later, Madeline Stewart sent in a deep shot that was just past the MMU keeper's outstretched hands, giving the Ravens a 2-0 lead just 5 minutes into the contest.
Sam Mausbach added to the Ravens tally, dribbling through Mustangs defenders in the box and then sending a shot across the goal to put the Ravens up 3-0 with 21 minutes to play in the first half.
Mausbach notched her second goal of the night with just over 14 minutes left in the first half. Kourtney Koc sent a pass into the box and Mausbach was able to knock it into the net to put the Ravens up 4-0.
Not long after, Rachel Beffa made it 5-0 in favor of the Ravens when she scored on an assist by Emma Strecker.
The five first-half goals proved to be the deciding spread as neither team scored in the second half. The Ravens dominated possession in the 90 minutes, recording 22 shots with 15 of those coming on goal. The Mustangs were able to put together more of an attack in the second half, but Olivia Berry made 8 saves in goal for the Ravens, with Caroline Gyllenborg also collecting 2 saves in 10 minutes of action.
The Ravens (13-4, 9-3 Heart) will begin the Heart Conference Postseason Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 6. As the No. 3 seed, the Ravens will play at home on Saturday with an opponent not yet determined.
