SILOAM SPRINGS, Arks. – The No. 24-ranked Raven Men's Basketball team started off cold offensively on Tuesday night and John Brown University took full advantage.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 16-0 lead inside the first five minutes of the game. Despite outscoring JBU 67-59 over the rest of the game, Benedictine couldn't overcome the slow start as they fell 75-67.
John Brown connected on 65.5 percent from the floor in the first half while also knocking down 50 percent from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Benedictine finished the half at 36.4 percent from the floor and just 20 percent from beyond the arc, which led to a 19-point deficit, 49-30, at the half.
In the second half, the Ravens gradually started to chip away at their deficit. With 4:31 remaining, they cut the lead to three, 66-63, on a basket from Nysir Scott. That proved to be all the closer the Ravens would get as the Golden Eagles finished out the game outscoring them 9-4 over the remainder of the game to earn the upset.
Scott finished with a team-high 12 points as the Ravens finished with a 32-22 advantage off the bench. Jaiden Bristol, Jayden Temme, and Eric Krus each scored 11 points each. Defensively, the Ravens forced the Golden Eagles into 14 turnovers, which led to a 14-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
The Ravens finish their non-conference schedule with a 6-3 overall record as they will travel to Topeka on Saturday for an exhibition against NCAA Div. II No. 11 Washburn University. They will open Heart play on Dec. 1 in Marshall, Mo., against Missouri Valley College.
