After playing to a 3-3 tie in the season-opener on Wednesday, the No. 6-ranked Raven Men's Lacrosse team caught fire on offense against Missouri Valley.
Benedictine scored 10 unanswered over a 22-minute stretch throughout the second and third quarter en route to a 16-5 win over the Vikings. The win also moved the Ravens to 1-0 to start KCAC play.
The Ravens held a 3-2 lead after the first quarter before finding their rhythm offensively in the second quarter. Anchored by a 16-6 shot advantage, back-to-back goals from Jack Kandoth got the scoring run started for the Ravens. By halftime, the Ravens extended their lead to 8-3 and as they entered the third quarter, they held the Vikings scoreless until there were just over two minutes left to play.
The scoring cooled off in the fourth quarter as the team combined for just three goals but it was the Ravens capping off the scoring on unassisted goals from Joseph Doyle and Sean Molyneaux.
Missouri Valley finished with 36 turnovers as the Ravens tallied 14 caused turnovers. Keaten Carney finished with 3 caused turnovers while James Carson added 2. The defensive effort didn't stop with forcing turnovers. Duncan Loud and Jacob Hammers split the game in goal and combined for 11 saves with Hammers tallying 7 in the second half.
Seven Ravens tallied goals in the win, led by Molyneux with four. Jordan Rodriguez added three while Carson, Doyle and Brady Guck joined Kandoth with two goals. The final scorer for the Ravens was Aidan Richardson – who netted a SportsCenter Top 10 worthy goal
with 6:28 remaining in the third quarter.
Doyle and Molyneux recorded two assists each while Guck and Kandoth added one.
Benedictine finished with a 52-25 advantage on shots as they held the Vikings to just 11 shots in the second half. The Ravens also finished with a 15 of 25 effort on faceoffs with Harrison Miller winning 15 of 24 to help get possession for the Ravens.
The Ravens will hit the road for their next game of the season, traveling to Fort Wayne, Ind., on March 6 to take on (4) Indiana Tech.
