Softball sweeps William Penn University in Heart play, 3-0 & 12-4

The Raven Softball team earned their third sweep overall in Heart play and their second sweep of the week on Saturday as they took a pair of games from William Penn University on Ravens Field.

Highlighting the sweep for the Ravens was the 57th career double of Blair Shanks in the second game. The double not only broke the career record for doubles, but it also helped keep a rally alive that led to the game ending after six innings.

The Ravens rallied around pitcher Alex Gilham in the opener en route to a 3-0 win and then followed that up with a seven-run sixth inning in game two earn the by the final of 12-4.

Gilham finished her game with three strikeouts as she went all seven innings to earn the four-hit shutout. Halley Rindom was the lone Raven to record multiple hits in the opener as she went 2 for 3. Maddison Zacarrdo added two RBI while Shanks had the lone extra-base hit with a double to tie the career mark.

In game two, the Statesmen took the lead at 4-3 after a three-run fifth inning only to have the Ravens score 9 unanswered over their half of the fifth and sixth to earn the run-rule win.

Abby Pressgrove went the distance, finishing with four strikeouts while allowing three earned runs off five hits.

At the plate, the Ravens broke out with 11 hits to score their 12 runs. Of those 11 hits, 10 were for extra bases. Megan Medhus and Pressgrove recorded two doubles while Molly Chevalier and Rindom joined Shanks with one double. Kaitlyn Fanning added a triple while Rindom and Zacarrdo each connected on home runs. Shanks finished with three RBI while Medhus and Zacarrdo finished with two each.

The Ravens remain at home Sunday with a doubleheader against (RV) Grand View University at 1 p.m.
