BALDWIN CITY – (RV) Raven Baseball took three of four from Baker University in a rare Sunday-Monday series.
Benedictine swept Sunday's doubleheader, 11-1 and 7-3, before splitting Monday's doubleheader. Both games on Monday needed extra innings with the Wildcats taking game one 10-9 in 10 innings before the Ravens won the nightcap 6-5 in 9 innings.
The Ravens hit .308 at the plate over the four-game series, recording 14 extra-base hits and 31 RBI. On the hill, Benedictine allowed 15 earned runs off 31 hits over 32 innings as they finished with a 4.22 ERA as a staff.
Game 1 - Benedictine 11, Baker 1.
Michael Kruse earned the complete-game win on the hill for the Ravens. He finished with a career-high 11 strikeouts as he held the Wildcats to one run off three hits.
Daryl Myers and Jacob Pavlyak anchored the Ravens offensive efforts. Myers went 3 for 4 with three runs scored, three RBI two doubles, and a triple. Pavlyak went 2 for 3 with two runs scored, three RBI a double, and a home run. Jackson Doherty also went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBI.
Game 2 - Benedictine 7, Baker 3.
Benedictine scored three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to earn the comeback win over Baker.
Isaac Rudolph earned the win for the Ravens, throwing five and one-third innings. He gave up two earned runs off seven hits with two strikeouts before Tate Garcia and Hunter Ostertag finished off the Wildcats.
Pavlyak and Tyler Marchand finished with two RBI each while Danny Favazza went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Myers added a double and two runs scored with an RBI.
Game 3 - Baker 10, Benedictine 9.
Baker scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 10th to snap the Ravens winnings streak after Benedictine rallied to score five in the seventh to force extra innings.
Luke Caruthers got the no-decision, throwing the first four innings for the Ravens. He gave up two earned runs off six hits with three strikeouts before a combination of four more Ravens finished off the game on the hill. Carson Kasl suffered the loss after a walk in the 10th led to the unearned winning run.
Benedictine finished the game with 17 hits, five for extra bases. Michael Slaten recorded two doubles while Brandon Van Beceleare and Marchand added one each. Favazza finished with a triple while Myers, Van Beceleare, and Marchand added two RBI each in the loss.
Game 4 - Benedictine 6, Baker 5.
Mark Hartley went five innings, allowing three earned runs off five hits with seven strikeouts but didn't factor into the decision. Garcia earned the win for the Ravens, throwing the final two and two-thirds innings in relief. He finished with three strikeouts, holding Baker to just one hit.
Pavlyak and Slaten finished the game with a double each with Pavlyak and Garrett Romero recording two RBI each.
The Ravens return to Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium for their next four-game series. The Ravens host Heart newcomer Park University at Noon on Thursday before wrapping up the series at Noon on Saturday.
