Football started the Joel Osborn era off in spectacular fashion at O'Malley Field on Saturday.
The Ravens dominated every area of the game, taking down the Hastings College Broncos 48-0.
In Osborn's first game as head coach after taking over for Larry Wilcox, the (18) Ravens wasted little time in taking control of the game. After receiving the opening kick, the Ravens marched 61 yards down the field and scored on a Garrett Kettle to Rayshon Mills pass.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Broncos misplayed the kick and the Ravens were able to recover, taking over at the Hastings 42-yard line. The Ravens needed just three plays before scoring again, this time on a 42-yard Kettle to Tre Adger connection.
Once again, the Ravens kickoff team pounced on a Broncos fumbled kick return. That set up a 23-yard Teagan Trammel field goal, giving the Ravens a 17-0 lead before the Broncos ever ran an offensive play.
Two more touchdowns in the second quarter gave the Ravens a 31-0 lead at halftime. The first was a Kettle to Reed Levi touchdown pass, then Kettle found Adger for their second touchdown connection of the game.
The third quarter was more of the same for the Ravens. Trammel knocked in a 30-yard field goal, Kettle found Adger for their third touchdown pass-and-catch of the game, and then Austin Buteaux returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown.
While the offense and special teams were putting points on the board, the Ravens defense made sure the Broncos remained at 0. Hastings had just 88 offensive yards in the contest, managing seven first downs. Gavin Spangler, James Mullen, and Brett Shepardson each totaled 3 solo tackles, with Shepardson, Jordan Malcom, and Joe Burke collecting sacks.
Kettle threw for 285 yards and five touchdowns and also ran for 40 yards. Adger caught nine passes for 215 yards and three scores, and Kort Mattison had three catches for 91 yards. Mills had 12 carries for 40 yards out of the backfield.
In all, the Ravens had 494 yards of offense.
The Ravens (8-2) await the NAIA Football National Championship Series selections, which will be released at 6 p.m. on Sunday. A total of 16 teams will qualify for the FCS, with the first-round games being played on April 17.
