Softball bounces back with Senior Day sweep over Clarke, 8-1 and 7-3

The Raven Softball team bounced back from a Saturday sweep with a Senior Day sweep over Clarke University on Sunday on Ravens Field.

Benedictine earned the cross-division wins over Clarke 8-1 and 7-3.

In Sunday's opener, the Ravens jumped ahead 4-1 after the first inning and that was all they needed in support of Senior pitcher Alex Gilham. Gilham held Clarke to just one earned run off with six hits with four strikeouts as she went the distance for the first time in her last four starts. It was her eighth overall complete game of the season.

Benedictine finished with 10 hits, which included four extra-base hits. Madison Zaccardo connected on her eighth home run of the season as she finished 2 for 2 with four RBI. Molley Chevalier, Clare Heitz, and Blair Shanks added doubles with Shanks adding three RBI.

In game two, MacKenzie Pinkerton earned her own complete-game win as she improved to 4-0 on the season. Pinkerton scattered two earned runs off eight hits over seven innings with two strikeouts.

At the plate, the Ravens finished with nine hits. Lenae Salinas recorded her team-leading ninth home run of the season as she finished with two RBI. Heitz added two RBI while Shanks and Hailey Rindom each recorded two hits at the plate.

The Ravens open a 10-game road swing on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader against Baker University in Baldwin City.
