(17) Football looks for bounce back opportunity with trip to Peru State

The No. 17-ranked Raven Football team returns to the road for week three as they take on Peru State College in Peru, Neb., at 6 p.m. Saturday inside the legendary Oak Bowl.

Series History: Saturday's meeting marks the 38th overall meeting between the Ravens and the Bobcats. Benedictine holds an overall series lead at 23-14. Last year the two teams met on Oct. 10 on O'Malley Field where Benedictine earned a 31-27 win that kicked off a five-game winning streak for the Ravens. In 2019, the two teams squared off in the Oak Bowl and Benedictine earned a 13-0 win on Sept. 14.

About Benedictine: Through two games, the Ravens are averaging 27.5 points per game with an average of 355 yards of total offense per game. ... Rayhon Mills leads the Ravens in rushing at 63.0 yards per game with two touchdowns. He has an average of 3.89 yards per carry so far this season off 33 rushing attempts. ... Garrett Kettle is averaging 170.5 yards through the air with four touchdowns off 27 of 54 passing with two interceptions. ... Tre Adger leads the Ravens receivers with 67 yards per game through the first two games. He is averaging 19.1 per reception with two touchdowns. ... Defensively, the Ravens led by Jalen James and Tyler Tierney with a total of 29 tackles. James has a total of 15 with 9 solo tackles while Tierney has 14 tackles with 8 solo tackles and two breakups.

About Peru State: The Bobcats enter the game with a 35.5 points per game average scoring a total of 71 points in their previous two games to open the season. ... They are averaging just 295 yards of total offense through two games (116 yards rushing, 295 yards passing). ... Quinton Hawkins leads the Bobcats in rushing with a per-game average of 84.5 yards. He is averaging 4 yards per rush with one touchdown. ... The Bobcats have turned to two quarterbacks to start the season. Grant Gutschow has 234 yards off 20 of 31 passing in two games while Joey Dominguez is 4 for 18 with 106 yards. Both have passed for two touchdowns. ... Orreon Finley is the Bobcats top receiver, averaging 64.5 yards off five receptions over two games. Jarrius Anderson has 7 receptions for 114 yards but all of that came against Central Methodist last week in a 27-24 loss. ... Travis Reed and Clayton Thrasher lead the Bobcats with a combined 25 tackles. They are the only two defensive players in double figures on the year so far. Reed has 15 tackles while Thrasher has 10. ... As a defense, the Bobcats have 22 tackles for a loss of 82 yards through two games with 5 sacks for a loss of 34 yards. 

What's Next: Benedictine returns home on Sept. 18 to host Clarke University at 1 p.m. on O'Malley Field at Larry Wilcox Stadium. The game marks the annual Stars & Stripes Day.
