Men's Soccer picked up their first conference win of the season on Saturday.
The Ravens shut out the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats 2-0 at home on Legacy Field.
Girma Kassa opened the scoring for the Ravens. With 22:14 left to play in the first half, Daniel Wee sent a pass in from the right wing and Kassa knocked it in past the CSC keeper to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead.
Kassa's goal stood up for the remainder of the half, as the Ravens took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. The Ravens created more chances than the Wildcats in the first half, tallying 6 shots to CSC's 2. Carlos Flores made one save in goal for the Ravens.
Kassa nearly doubled the Ravens lead in the first half, but his shot ricocheted off the right post.
Kassa did notch that second goal 5 minutes into the second. Rodrigo Furst slipped a pass forward to Kassa on the left side of the 18-yard box, and Kassa buried his shot to the right side of the goal to put the Ravens up 2-0.
The Ravens defense did the rest, keeping the Wildcats off the scoreboard the remainder of the game. Carlos Flores made 3 saves to earn the clean sheet.
Flores, the Ravens backline, midfielders, and forward players all made things difficult for the Wildcats, pressing CSC and not letting the Wildcats get many opportunities in the offensive half. Flores was up for CSC's best chance, punching a shot over the crossbar to preserve the shutout.
The Ravens were also able to go deep on their bench, letting several players get valuable minutes against a conference opponent.
Next up for the Ravens will be a stiff test; they'll host defending national champion Missouri Valley College at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22.
