Game Recap: Football |

(RV) Football bounces back with first shutout of the season, 68-0, over Clarke

Raven Football snapped a two-game losing skid in convincing fashion Saturday afternoon.

The Ravens blasted the Clarke University Pride 68-0 at home to move to 2-2 on the season.

The Ravens dominated the Pride in every facet of the game. The home team notched 32 first downs, compared to 14 for Clarke, and out-gained the Pride 539 yards to 224 yards.

The Ravens found the end zone three times in the first quarter thanks to two rushing touchdowns by Garrett Kettle and one by Rayshon Mills. Then the Ravens scored four times in the second quarter. Kettle notched his third rushing touchdown of the game early in the second, then connected with JaShawn Todd for a 22-yard pass-and-catch score.

Damon Wigand scored on an 11-yard run late in the half. That's when the Ravens special teams came up big, forcing a turnover on the ensuing kickoff that led to another Wigand touchdown run to put the Ravens up 47-0 at the break.

The domination continued in the second half as the Ravens opened up the final 30 minutes with a touchdown drive that culminated in a 44-yard Jonah Roberts touchdown run. Drake Pray had a 2-yard rushing score later in the third and then the final Ravens touchdown was a passing score from Luke Laskowski to Jacob Gathright.

The Raven offense had eight rushing touchdowns on the day, but the yardage was evenly split between rushing and passing; 270 yards through the air and 269 on the ground. At least five Ravens had at least four rushing attempts, and four players had at least three receptions.

The Ravens defense also shared the wealth with eight players involved in at least 4 tackles. Jalen James had a team-high 9 tackles, followed by 8 for Lance McLaughlin and 7 for Javhi Bloomquist. The Ravens defense was strong on important downs, holding Clarke to just 4-of-15 on third downs.

The Ravens will travel to Graceland University for their next contest on Saturday, Sept. 25 before returning home for a game against Culver-Stockton College on Oct. 2.
