Football returns to the road for trip to Graceland at 1 p.m. Saturday

LAMONI, Iowa – After taking off a year due to a Covid-related reduction in the schedule, the Raven Football team will take on Graceland University on the road on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Huntsman Field inside the Bruce Jenner Sports Complex.

Benedictine (2-2) is coming off a 68-0 win over Clarke University that got them back to .500 after dropping two straight to (5) Grand View University and Peru State College. Graceland (0-4) is coming off a 44-0 loss at the hands of Central Methodist University on the road in Fayette, Mo.

SERIES HISTORY: Saturday's meeting marks the 33rd overall meeting between Benedictine and Graceland. The Ravens hold a 24-7-1 series lead and bring in a three-game winning streak to this year's match-up. Graceland beat Benedictine 34-29 during the 2016 season in Lamoni. Since then, the Ravens have outscored the Yellowjackets 212-19. During that stretch, the Ravens also established a new program record for single-game scoring in their 2018 84-12 win over the Yellowjacket during week seven of the season on O'Malley Field at Larry Wilcox Stadium.

ABOUT BENEDICTINE: While the 68-point output was impressive, since 2011, that point total ranks 8th for the highest point total scored by the Ravens. In the past 10 years, the Ravens have scored 50 points or more 19 times. ... The Ravens rushed for 8 touchdowns in the win over Clarke, matching their highest rushing touchdown total in the past five seasons. They also scored 8 rushing touchdowns on Sept. 30, 2017, against Central Methodist and against on Sept. 21, 2019, against Clarke. ... Saturday's shutout also marked the second straight time the Ravens held the Pride scoreless. ... Jalen James now has 353 career tackles as he continues to move up the all-time list. He is chasing Curtis Coppinger for second with 373. 

ABOUT GRACELAND: Since beating Peru State 36-33 on Oct. 27, 2018, the Yellowjackets have lost 22 straight. ... Through and 0-4 start to their 2021 campaign, Graceland is averaging 10.3 points per game while being shutout twice. ... They are averaging 20.5 points per game in two games on Huntsman Field so far this season in losses to MNU and Missouri Valley College. ... Graceland is averaging just over 160 yards per game on the ground this year with an average of 3.1 per carry. ... Six players have 15 or more carries through four games while as a team, the Yellowjackets have rushed for a total 655 yards. .... Graceland has leaned heavily on their running game with just 168 yards passing this year.
