BALDWIN CITY – The Raven Women's Cross Country team opened up their 2021 season on Saturday with a second-place finish at the annual ZK-Maple Leaf Invite hosted by Baker University.
Mary Rolwes paced the Ravens with a fourth-place individual finish on the 4k course with a time of 15:47.
"The start to 2021 was amazing," said Je'Kel Smith, Director of Track & Field/Cross Country. "Our kids' parents came out to support and the energy was electrifying despite the weather conditions. We still have work to do but I believe we're headed in the right direction to our ultimate goal for the season."
Mary O'Connor (15:48) finished sixth followed by Isabella Guerra (16:08) in eighth place. The remaining point scorers for the Ravens were Julia McLaughlin (16:19) in 13th place and Claire Zarybnicky (16:39) in 20th place.
The team will travel to Lincoln, Neb., on Sept. 18 to take part in the annual Woody Greeno-Dirksen Invite.
