Men's Basketball dropped a home contest against a tough opponent Saturday evening.
The Ravens lost 73-61 to the Southwestern College Moundbuilders, the No. 15-ranked team in the NAIA.
The first half couldn't have started better for the Ravens. In Wednesday's season-opener, the Ravens came out cold in the first half but that wasn't the case Saturday as they opened the contest with an 11-0 run.
The Ravens shot 45% from the field in the opening half, including hitting 7-of-12 from 3-point range.
The Moundbuilders closed the gap before halftime, thanks in large part to 9 Ravens turnovers. Southwestern averaged 103 points per game entering Saturday's contest but struggled from the field in the opening half. They shot 30% from the field and connected on just 3-16 from deep. The Moundbuilders were able to get to the free throw line, though, hitting 7-8.
Jake Thompson had the final dagger of the first half, hitting a 3-pointer just before the buzzer sounded.
Jayden Temme also hit a career milestone in the opening 20 minutes, surpassing 1,000 career points with a bucket in the paint.
The Moundbuilders took away the Ravens easy looks in the second half, forcing the Ravens to struggle from the field. The Ravens shot 31% from the floor in the second half, and just 4-13 from long range.
Southwestern, conversely, shot better in the second half and were able to get to the free throw line. The Moundbuilders were 55.6% from the field in the final 20 minutes and knocked down 8-13 from the free throw line; the Ravens only shot 8 free throws in the entire game. The Ravens turned the ball over 10 more times in the second half, giving away too many possessions against the quality opponent.
Temme had a team-high 15 points for the Ravens. He was joined in double-figures by Braden Belt and Thompson, who each scored 14 points.
The Ravens (1-1) remain at home for their next game, a 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 contest against Avila University.
