Baseball scores 22 runs off 17 hits in road win over University of St. Mary

LEAVENWORTH – Baseball matched their season-run total from the 2021 season on Tuesday as they took on the University of St. Mary.

The Ravens exploded for a 14-run sixth inning en route to a 22-4 win over the Spires. The run total was the most for the Ravens since they posted 22 runs in a 22-6 win over Dakota Wesleyan at Olsen Stadium on March 7, 2021.

Ben Bowman earned the win in relief for the Ravens. He was the pitcher of record when the game went official after Charlie Elsten earned the start. Elsten threw the first three and one-third innings, holding the Spires to one hit with three strikeouts. In total, the Ravens sent six pitchers to the hill that combined to limit the Spires to just seven hits while not allowing a run until the seventh inning. 

Benedictine scored their 22 runs off 17 hits, eight of which were for extra bases. Jacob Pavlyak went 4 for 6 as hit for the cycle, recording a single, double, triple, and a home run. Pavlyak finished with three RBI and four runs scored. Drew Piontek, Miles Holmquist, Hunter Moffet, and Jack Harpole all recorded doubles. Jacob Slaten, Ian O'Malley, Moffett, and Holmquist all finished with two RBI as the Ravens totaled 15. 

The Ravens are scheduled to return home to Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium on Saturday and Sunday for a four-game series with St. Ambrose University. Atchison is expected to see some Winter weather on Thursday but forecasts as of the time this story was posted are unclear on the amounts.
