WALESKA, Ga. – Matching up against their second straight NAIA-ranked opponent in as many games, No. 6 Women's Lacrosse was handed their first loss of the season as No. 5 Reinhardt University scored the go-ahead goal with seven seconds remaining to earn a 15-14 win.
Natalie Wechter scored with 3:22 remaining in the game to tie the score at 14-14. A card was issued to Benedictine's Grace Simonson in the final seconds of the game, allowing the Eagles to play the final seconds a man-up. They took advantage and scored the game-winner giving the Ravens very little time to respond on the ensuing draw control.
A four-goal second quarter pushed the Ravens to an 8-6 lead at the half. The Eagles outscored the Ravens 5-3 in the third quarter to send the game into the final 15 minutes tied at 11-11.
Wechter led the Ravens with five goals and four assists. She added 15 draw controls and five ground balls defensively. Eric Odell finished with three goals and one assist while Margaux Gelbach and Elizabeth Conley added two goals each. Aiden McEnerney and Rianna England scored a goal each while McEnerney and Clare Ryan added the final two assists.
Gianna Stalleti suffered the loss in goal, recording 12 saves, five of which came in the final 15 minutes. She faced six free-position shots from Reinhardt and allowed just one goal in six attempts.
Benedictine returns to Marietta, Ga., today to take on Marian University before returning back to campus.
