OLATHE – After Mother Nature forced a reschedule of their second Heart series of the season, Raven Softball took on MNU on Sunday and earned a split with the Pioneers.
Benedictine rallied for the win in game one, 4-3, and then dropped game two, 6-2.
In the opener, the Ravens scored 4 unanswered over the sixth and seventh innings to earn the comeback win.
MNU held the Ravens hitless through four innings with Natalie Sheffield connecting on a single in the fifth inning. Madison Zaccardo scored Kaitlyn Fanning in the sixth inning to give the Ravens their first run of the series. Megan Medhus doubled in the seventh to score Kassidy James and Kylie Hays to start the rally. Clare Heitz singled in Medhus to give the Ravens the lead and then Jenna Drish finished off the Pioneers with three grounds in the bottom half of the inning to earn the win.
Drish threw a complete game inside the circle for the Ravens. She finished with 4 strikeouts while giving up 2 earned runs off 7 hits. Medhus finished with two hits – both doubles and 2 RBI – as the only Raven with a multi-hit game at the plate.
In game two, the Ravens were limited to just 5 hits at the plate. MacKenzie Pinkerton earned the start inside the circle and suffered the loss. Kera Willoughby and Alicia Armijo combined to finish out the game but couldn't keep the Pioneers in check, giving up six runs off 12 hits.
Medhus added two more hits, with another double at the plate. Isabella Ingui went 2 for 2 while Zaccardo finished with a home run to round out the Ravens efforts at the plate.
Benedictine returns home for a pair of Heart doubleheaders this week. They are scheduled to host Park University on Tuesday and Central Methodist University on Wednesday, but both doubleheaders are subject to change due to rain moving into the area on Monday afternoon into the evening hours.
