Game Recap: Softball |

Softball sweeps first road series of the season over Avila, 11-3 and 8-3

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Raven Softball hit the road for the first time this season and earned a doubleheader sweep over former Heart opponent Avila University.

Benedictine swept a pair of games from the Eagles winning 11-3 and 8-3.

Jenna Drish earned the game-one win inside the circle for the Ravens. She threw five innings, giving up three runs off six hits with three strikeouts before giving way to MacKenzie Pinkertson who finished out the game. Pinkerton held the Eagles hitless over the final two innings to give the Ravens offense a chance to open up their lead.

The Ravens finished with 11 hits as Kaitlyn Fanning, Ally Pickering, Megan Medhus, Madison Zaccardo, Lenae Salinas, and Natalie Sheffield all recorded a double at the plate. Salinas added a home run while driving in four.

In game two, the Ravens turned a 2-2 tie into a five-run win after scoring four runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth.

Pinkerton earned the win inside the circle for the Ravens. She threw the final four and one-third innings in relief of Kera Willoughby. Pinkerton held the Eagles to just one run off four hits while Willoughby allowed one earned run off two hits over two and two-thirds.

Three Ravens recorded an extra-base hit in game two. Zaccardo connected on a home run while Halley Rindom added a double with Chloe Strickland recording a triple. Strickland added two RBI as the Ravens recorded a total of six RBI.

With the winter weather hitting campus overnight headed into Thursday, combined with forecasted temperatures on Friday and Saturday, the upcoming schedule for the Ravens has been altered. Doubleheaders with Evangel and Central Methodist on Friday and Saturday have been postponed to later in March. The Ravens have rescheduled their road doubleheader with the University of St. Mary for Sunday in Leavenworth starting at 1 p.m.
