Men's Lacrosse took down the No. 1 team in the country Saturday afternoon, clinching a spot in the National Tournament.
The (8) Ravens defeated the (1) St. Ambrose University Fighting Bees 10-8, winning the KCAC Championship Final.
The Ravens earned a lead after one quarter of play and then rode their defense the rest of the way. With a 3-goal lead heading into the final quarter, the Ravens withstood the Fighting Bees comeback attempt and held on for the 2-goal win. Duncan Loud continued his hot play in goal for the Ravens, notching 16 saves to earn the win.
After falling behind the Fighting Bees quickly in their regular-season matchup and losing 10-5, the Ravens began Saturday's Final in a better fashion. The Ravens scored the opening goal of the game and held a 4-2 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter was a defensive showcase as each team managed just one goal. The Ravens held a 5-3 lead at halftime.
The defense was strong once again in the third quarter, but the Ravens pushed their lead to 3 goals, taking a 7-4 advantage into the final period. A late goal helped the Ravens take that lead into the fourth, as Joseph Bianchi won a face-off, then found Brady Guck who hit the upper right corner for a goal with 10 seconds left in the quarter.
The game opened up a little in the final period, with the Fighting Bees scoring 4 goals, but the Ravens made their lead stick, scoring 3 goals in the fourth.
Guck scored 4 goals to lead the Ravens, also notching 2 assists. Michael Hogan and Richardson also scored 2 goals, and Sean Molyneux and Richards each had 2 assists.
With the win, the Ravens are guaranteed a spot in the NAIA Men's Lacrosse Invitational Tournament, May 11-14, in Pensacola, Florida.
