Raven Baseball celebrated their Senior class on Saturday before hosting a four-game series with No. 12-ranked Central Methodist.
The Eagles took the series from the Ravens, ending Benedictine's season at 20-29.
Saturday's games went to the Eagles 5-1 and 11-8 before the series wrapped up with wins of 14-2 and 10-3 by CMU.
Andrew Baier opened the series on the hill for the Ravens, matching up against CMU's ace Nathan Merkel. Merkel outdueled Baier to earn his 27th career win for the Eagles, setting a new record for the program. Baier went 6 innings, giving up 5 runs off 11 hits with 6 strikeouts before Issac Rudolph finished off the seventh. Jacob Pavlyak and Hunter Moffet each hit doubles as the Ravens were limited to just 1 run off 3 hits. Jackson Doherty recorded the Ravens lone RBI.
In game two of the series, the teams combined for 20 hits. CMU opened the game with a 6-run first inning before Benedictine scored 3 in the second and 4 in the fourth to tie the game. A 2-run seventh inning proved to be the difference as the Eagles held on for the win. Luke Schmedding took over for Nelson Klein during the first inning and held the Eagles to just two runs off one hit over his 5 innings of work. Blake Patterson was credited with the loss, giving up the go-ahead run during his two-thirds of an inning of work.
Danny Favazza, Pavlyak, Jacob Slaten, Jack Harpole, and Ashton Neuman finished with 2 hits each. Pavlyak hit a home run and finished with two RBI while Slaten and Doherty both hit doubles. Favazza and Doherty joined Pavlyak with 2 RBI each while Harpole and Neuman added an RBI each.
Sunday's doubleheader saw the Eagles take full advantage of their home run power and big innings offensive.
Favazza, Slaten, Harpole, and Brandon Van Beceleare connected on doubles as the Ravens recorded four doubles out of their six total hits. Van Beceleare finished his career with the Ravens going 2 for 2 while Harpole recorded 2 RBI.
In the series finale, the Eagles used 3 home runs to break the game open. Pavlyak added a home run of his own in his final game for Benedictine while Slaten added a double in his final game. Moffet added another double while Harpole and Neuman finished with an RBI each.
In the top of the seventh, head coach Eric Peterson subbed out each Senior on the field one at a time, giving them another special moment in final game as Ravens.
