Women's Soccer put together a dominant effort at home Saturday evening.
The (RV) Ravens defeated the Evangel University Valor 4-1, owning possession for a large majority of the match.
Just 4 minutes into the action, Rachel Beffa tracked down a ball played into the box by Sam Mausbach and beat the keeper with her preferred left foot to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead.
The Ravens had several other opportunities to expand their lead in the first half but were unable to find a second goal in the opening half. Several players all came close to giving the Ravens a second or possibly third goal, but it wasn't meant to be in the opening 45 minutes.
The Ravens outshot the Valor 19-0, including 7-0 in shots on goal in the opening half. Chloe Hancock was strong in goal for the Valor, saving 6 shots to keep her team in the game.
It took the Ravens about 3 minutes into the second half to get that elusive second goal, opening the floodgates for the attack. Annabelle Hoog passed to Mausbach who worked through the Valor defense, then beat Hancock to double the Ravens lead, 2-0.
The Ravens lead was extended to 3-0 with 19 minutes left to play. Beffa played to Riley Degner who buried it for her team-high fifth goal of the season.
Then, with 14:30 to play, Kourtney Koc faked to her right, shifted back left, and uncorked a laser into the net to give the Ravens a 4-0 lead.
The Valor were able to net a goal late in the game, snapping the Ravens 205-minute streak of holding their opponents scoreless. It proved to be the final score of the game as the Ravens earned the 3-goal victory.
The home side wound up with 30 more shots than EU, and a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal.
The Ravens (5-3, 2-0 Heart) will hit the road for their next contest, taking on MidAmerica Nazarene University on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in a matchup of two teams receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 poll.
