BELLVUE, Neb. – Raven Volleyball posted a 2-2 mark over the weekend at the GoSarpy.com Tournament hosted by Bellevue University.
The Ravens opened tournament play on Friday with a split, beating Dickinson State 3-1 before falling to No. 17 Dakota Wesleyan. Saturday, they earned another split, falling to Diane 3-1 before wrapping up the tournament with a 3-1 win over No. 20 Carroll.
Against Dickinson State, the Ravens set a new single-match high for attack percentage as they finished at .331 in the four-set match. Benedictine recorded 60 kills with just 14 errors. Mary Pat Taylor led the attack with a career-high 25 kills. She was joined by Regan Bruggeman with 13 kills and Sabrina Oncins with 12. Marissa Mantz and Marea Workman anchored the offensive attack. Mantz finished with 29 assists while Wortmann added 24.
Defensively, the Ravens backline was led by Kristijana Istuk with 20 digs. Taylor and Oncins added 13 each. Maggie Schoening finished with two block assists.
In their match against No. 17 Dakota Wesleyan, the Ravens were limited to just 29 kills. Joslyn Lewis led the way with 7, followed by Taylor with 6 while Bruggeman and Oncins added 5 each. Wortmann finished with 15 assists while Mantz added 13. Istuk was the only player to reach double figures on the backline with 20 digs.
Saturday's opener saw the Ravens improve on their attack from their Friday loss, but they weren't able to overcome Doane falling in four sets. Bruggeman led the offensive attack with 14 kills followed by Oncins with 13. Taylor and Maura Lickteig added 9 each. Wortmann anchored the offensive attack, finishing the match with 41 of the Ravens 55 assists. Mantz added 12.
Istuk led the backline again with 23 digs while Taylor and Bruggeman finished with 16 and 14 respectively. Taylor and Schoening each recorded two block assists while Taylor and Haylie Dickerson added a solo block each.
The Ravens wrapped up the tournament with a four-set match against No. 20 Carroll. They finished with 63 kills to set a new single-match high. Four players finished in double figures, led by Bruggeman with 19. Oncins finished with 16 while Taylor and Lewis added 14 and 10 respectively. Wortmann accounted for 36 assists while Mantz added 21.
Five Ravens finished the match with double-figure digs, led by Istuk with 30. Taylor was next with 14, followed by Oncins with 12 while Mantz and Wortmann added 11 each. Lickteig finished with 5 block assists while Lewis added 2.
Benedictine makes its home debut on Friday, hosting a JV/Varsity doubleheader with Clarke University. JV opens up at 5 p.m., followed by varsity at 7 p.m. They remain at home on Saturday, hosting an 11 a.m. match with Mount Mercy University.
