Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Comeback comes up short against No. 18 Valor

Men's Basketball lost a high-scoring game at home Wednesday night to the Evangel University Valor.

The No. 18 Valor shot lights out in the first half and held on for a 93-85 win over the Ravens.

Down 53-49 after the opening half, the Ravens started the second half on a 16-3 run to get within 1 point of the Valor, but the visitors pushed their lead back to 10 points with 12:18 to play. The Ravens made another run to get within 3 points, but three turnovers led to 6 points for Evangel as they pushed their lead back to 75-66.

Anthony Hall answered with his third 3-pointer of game to pull the Ravens to within 6 points with 9:18 to play.

A pair of free throws by Jayden Temme pulled the Ravens within 3 points with 2:29 to play, but that's as close as the Ravens could get as the Valor closed out the game at the free throw line for a 93-85 win.

Neither team was afraid to shoot from deep to begin the game. The Ravens knocked down 4-of-10 to open the game, only to be outdone by Evangel's 6-9 mark through 11 minutes, helping the Valor build a 32-23 lead.

The Valor connected on their next four attempts from deep to push their lead to 46-30 with 5:24 to play in the first half. After 20 minutes of action, Evangel held a 53-39 lead thanks in large part to 11 made 3-pointers. The Valor's season high for 3-pointers entering Wednesday was 12.

Evangel finished the game 13-27 from the 3-point line while the Ravens were 12-30 from deep. The Ravens outrebounded the Valor 36-26, but had 4 more turnovers than Evangel.

Ahmad Louis scored 17 points and had 6 steals to lead the Ravens. He was joined in double-digits by Braden Belt who scored 15 points, Sam Ungashick's 12, and Preston Reynolds with 11 points to go along with 11 boards.

The loss snaps the Ravens (8-8, 6-4 Heart) five-game winning streak. The Ravens will try to get back in the win column in a 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 game at MidAmerica Nazarene University, the first of three-straight road games.
