OLATHE – MNU handed (RV) Benedictine Volleyball its third loss of the Heart schedule on Tuesday night as the two teams finished their regular-season series with a split.
After Benedictine won the first set 25-22., the Pioneers rattled off wins of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-17 to earn the win.
The Ravens earned a first-set win behind an attack percentage of .222. That would be their highest single-set percentage as MNU adjusted defensively with their block.
MNU finished the match with 11 team blocks – 18 block assists and 2 solo blocks – with 7 of the 11 coming over the final three sets.
Hokulani Sagapolu finished with a match-high 26 kills while hitting .317, but was the only Raven in double figures as the Pioneers finished with three led by the 23 of Mikayla Johnson. Mary Pat Taylor added 9 kills while Regan Bruggeman and Maura Lickteig added 5 each.
After the two teams hit nearly even in the first match of the season at Benedictine, the second time around the Pioneers finished at .218 to the Ravens .118. Amber Allen anchored the attack for the Ravens, finishing with 44 of the teams 48 assists as they finished with a total of 52 kills.
Sagapolu led the backline defensive effort with 19 digs while Taylor added 18. Evelyn Arreola added 16 while Lickteig led the blocking effort with 3 block assists and a solo block. Bruggeman added the Ravens other solo block while Sagapolu finished with 2 block assists.
With the loss, the Ravens fall to 10-3 in the Heart and 18-5 overall. They are tied for third overall in the Heart standings with Mount Mercy, who leads the Heart North.
Benedictine hosts their second match of the season with Baker University at 11 a.m. Saturday as part of Homecoming Weekend on campus.
