Ravens Volleyball had its winning streak snapped by a difficult opponent Tuesday night at home.
The Ravens lost 3-0 to the No. 8 Park University Pirates. Park has made the national tournament 10-straight years and showed their composure in tight moments.
The Pirates took an early lead on the Ravens, forcing the home side to take a timeout down 11-7 in the first set. The Ravens scored 3-straight points to make it 15-13 and forced a Pirates timeout, but the Ravens continued to battle back and tied the score, 16-16. A kill by Mary Pat Taylor tied the score once again at 19-19, but the Pirates closed out the first set on a 6-1 run to earn the 25-20 set win.
The Ravens found themselves in a similar position as the first set, chasing the Pirates after Park built an early lead. After the visiting side built an 11-7 lead, the Ravens went on a 7-3 run to level the set at 14-14 and took a 16-15 lead on Regan Bruggeman's block. However, the Pirates surged back ahead to take a 23-18 lead. The Ravens continued to fight, scoring 5-straight points, 4 of which came with Haley Cahill serving, to tie the score 23-23. It was the Pirates finding the final pair of points in the set, though, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The final set was controlled by Park from the start. The Pirates quickly took a 5-0 lead and held a 13-8 lead a few moments later. That's when the Pirates turned on the gas, going on a 13-0 run to help them close out the set 25-9, earning a 3-0 match win.
Taylor had a team-high 10 kills for the Ravens while adding 11 digs. Evelyn Arreola led the Ravens with 12 digs, Amber Allen had 25 assists, and Haley Cahill recorded 3 aces.
The loss snaps the Ravens (16-4, 8-2 Heart) 6-match winning streak. The Ravens will have to wait a week to try to get back in the win column when they take on Missouri Valley College at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10.
