Men's Soccer lost on a late goal to a ranked opponent Saturday evening.
The Ravens held the No. 14 William Penn Statesmen scoreless for 80 minutes but fell 1-0.
The Ravens and Statesmen were scoreless in the opening 45 minutes. The action was primarily played in the Ravens defensive half as Penn's pressure kept the Ravens from linking together much of an attack.
WPU outshot the Ravens 7-3 in the opening half. Noah Reuscher made two saves in the first 45 minutes, including a stop on a great look for the Statesmen in the 20th minute.
The Ravens changed the momentum for much of the second half, pressing forward and creating more scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, the Statesmen were always in position to thwart the chances, including a diving save by the keeper and a near-goal cleared off the line by a defender.
The Statesmen then broke through first with less than 10 minutes to play. A group of players inside the Ravens 6-yard box resulted in the ball trickling into the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead with just minutes left to play.
The Ravens attempted to find an equalizer, but the late WPU goal proved to be the game-winner.
Reuscher made 4 saves in goal for the Ravens, and the offense wound up recording 6 shots on goal compared to 5 for the Statesmen.
The Ravens (7-3-2, 3-2-1 Heart) will have another home match as an opportunity to bounce back. They'll host the No. 7 MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11.
