ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Benedictine Football remained undefeated in Heart South play on Saturday as they captured the program's first-ever win over Missouri Baptist University.
The Spartans joined the Heart this fall to replace the departed Evangel University Valor and entered the game at 1-7. Defensively, the Ravens recorded 4 sacks and a total of 8 tackles for a loss en route to a 36-16 win over the Spartans as they held Missouri Baptist scoreless in the second half.
Benedictine scored a touchdown on their first three possessions of the game – all 3 through the air. Jackson Dooley connected on passes of 74 yards, 32 yards and 54 yards. Jacob Gathright caught the 74-yard and 54-yard touchdown passes while Joseph Lagafuaina.
The Ravens gave up 10 points in the second quarter defensively. Harry Balke connected on a 47-yard field goal in the second quarter before Dooley connected on his fourth touchdown pass of the game, this to Tanner Zimmerman for 34 yards.
Balke was the only scoring in the second half of the game, connecting on a 30-yard third-quarter field goal.
Benedictine finished with 374 yards on offense. Dooley finished with 369 yards on 17 of 28 passes. Gathright finished with 179 yards on 5 catches while Dalton Witherspoon led the Ravens rushing attack with 63 yards.
Carson Anderson led the defense with 11 tackles. Cole Johnson added 6 tackles and finished with 2 sacks for a loss of 22 yards. Heath Baker and Dominic Stinking added a sack each. Joel Mews recovered a fumble while Blake Dapkus had an interception that he returned for 42 yards.
Benedictine wraps up the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m., hosting MNU on O'Malley Field at Larry Wilcox Stadium for Senior Day.
