Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second-half barrage pushes No. 7 William Penn past Men's Basketball

Men's Basketball couldn't withstand William Penn University's second-half scoring barrage Saturday.

The Ravens lost to the No. 7 ranked Statesmen, 86-60, after holding a 3-point lead at halftime.

The first half went in the Ravens favor as they slowed down the fast-paced William Penn attack.

The Ravens held a 19-16 lead after 10 minutes of action, thanks in large part to their defensive effort and Penn's tendency to turn the ball over. The Ravens shot 39% from the field early on, but forced 8 Penn turnovers.

The final 10 minutes of the first half were even as the Ravens took a 31-28 lead into the break. Penn entered the game averaging 92 points per contest, but the Ravens defense kept the Statesmen to only 2 points in transition. WPU knocked down six 3-pointers in the first half, on pace for more than their usual eight made 3-pointers per game entering Saturday.

Sam Ungashick had 10 points at half, including a pair of treys, to lead the Ravens. The Ravens also turned the ball over just 5 times in the first half, compared to 9 for Penn.

The second half went exactly the opposite of what the Ravens wanted to happen. Penn used a scoring surge to take the lead and then caught fire from 3-point range. The Statesmen's previous high for 3-pointers this season was 15 against Missouri Valley. They blew by that Saturday, knocking down 19 3-pointers to take control of the game.

The Ravens were unable to keep up with the Statesmen's hot second-half offense, shooting 30% from the field in the game.

Ungashick finished with a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Ravens. Jayden Temme scored 15, and Tyson Cathy added 6 points and 7 boards.

Penn moves to a perfect 19-0 in conference play while the Ravens drop to 11-15 overall and 9-11 in Heart play.

The final home contest for the Ravens awaits as they host Missouri Valley at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15.
