Ravens Baseball earned its third-straight doubleheader split Saturday afternoon.
The Ravens topped the Dordt Defenders 5-3 in Game 1, then lost 5-2 in Game 2.
Game 1
A big fifth inning proved to be the winning margin for the Ravens in the opener. Trailing 3-1 headed into the bottom of the fifth, Hunter Moffet singled to set up a game-leveling 2-run home run by Brylan Haas. Danny Favazza then singled and stole second base, then scored on an error by the Defenders to give the Ravens a 4-3 lead.
Jack Harpole doubled to lead off the bottom of the sixth. Brice Martin, pinch-running for Harpole, then scored on another Dordt error to give the Ravens an insurance run.
The Ravens pitchers locked things down to close out the win. Jackson Sarver started the game on the bump, striking out 7 in 4 innings of work. Matthew Gephardt earned the win by going 2.1 innings with 1 run allowed, and Lance Bolles picked up the save by earning the final two outs of the game.
Game 2
The final game of the doubleheader was close again, but this time it was Dordt that scored late to pick up the win. Tied 2-2 after five innings, the Defenders plated 3 runs in the top of the sixth to go on to win 5-2.
Ben Bowman pitched well in defeat, striking out 8 in 5.1 innings. He was relieved by Zach Wilcox, Ben DeLaForest and Bolles. Harpole and Tyler Marchand picked up RBIs for the Ravens.
Next up for the Ravens (4-7) is a four-game set against Mount Marty University. The first doubleheader will be at noon Saturday, March 4 in Atchison.
