Men's Basketball couldn't complete a comeback attempt at home Saturday afternoon.
The Ravens nearly erased a 15-point deficit, ultimately falling to the Mount Mercy University Mustangs, 70-67.
Down 56-41 at the mid-way point of the second half, the Ravens began to claw back. Tyson Cathy made a pair of free throws, then another bucket to start the comeback attempt, and Jayden Temme's free throws got the Ravens to within single digits with 6:19 to play.
A pair of 3-pointers by Ahmad Louis and Temme cut the Mustangs lead to 64-60 a minute later. Temme's bucket with 32 seconds left to play got the Ravens within 3 points, but that was as close as they could get.
Temme finished with 18 points and 9 rebounds to lead the Ravens in each category. Cathy scored 13 while Sam Ungashick and Preston Reynolds both added 11 points. The Ravens shot 39% from the field in the game, while the Mustangs managed 55.3% shooting.
The Mustangs started the game hot, taking a 12-point lead just 6 minutes into the game. The Ravens battled back, going on a 15-3 run to level the score at 21-21. The run started with back-to-back baskets by Reynolds. Cathy scored inside, then had a blocked shot on the defensive end that led to a bucket by Brycen LaRue. That was followed by a 3-pointer by Anthony Hall.
The Ravens and Mustangs continued to battle the remainder of the half, with MMU taking a 35-30 lead into the break. MMU's lead ballooned in the second half before the Ravens nearly fought all the way back.
Next up for the Ravens (11-13 overall, 9-9 Heart) is a trip to Peru State College on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
