Softball drops doubleheader to NCAA Div. II Missouri Western

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Softball took to the road on Wednesday to take advantage of the weather before it changes on Thursday, stepping up to take on NCAA Div. II Missouri Western State University.

The Griffons earned the doubleheader sweep, beating the Ravens 9-1 and 9-4.

In the opener, the Ravens were limited to one run off five hits. Ally Pickering went 2 for 3 while Megan Medhus and Natalie Sheffield each hit a double. Clare Heitz recorded the Ravens lone RBI while Medhus scored the lone run.

Kera Willoughby threw the first 4 innings, giving up seven runs of eight hits with three strikeouts. Abby Pressgrove finished off the game for the Ravens inside the circle, allowing two runs off three hits with two strikeouts.

In game two, the Ravens were able to capitalize off their six hits to score four runs. Medhus went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Pickering added a double and RBI while Rilee Bell added a home run and RBI.

Lacey Foster suffered the loss inside the circle. She threw the first two innings, giving up six runs off seven hits with a strikeout. Heitz finished the game, throwing four innings with two strikeouts while giving up three runs off five hits.

Benedictine returns home on Tuesday to host Bellevue University at Noon. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Sunday but because of concerns over forecasted temperatures and the conference cold-weather policy, the doubleheader has been pushed to Tuesday.
