(RV) Men's Lacrosse earned a comeback win over (RV) Columbia (Mo.) on Tuesday night on Legacy Field.
Benedictine scored three unanswered goals that were capped off by a goal by James Carson off an assist from Jordan Rodriguez that gave Benedictine its first lead with just 23 seconds against as the Ravens earned a 7-6 win.
Columbia led by as many as two goals at three different times throughout the game. After Paul Gordon scored the first goal of the game for Benedictine to tie the game at 1-all, the Cougars rattled off two straight to lead 3-1 at the half. After trading goals to start the third quarter, the Cougars took their second two-goal lead at 5-3.
Trailing by two goals heading into the fourth quarter, Rodriguez scored the first goal of the Ravens four-goal fourth quarter off an assist from Ty Beyer. The Cougars answered to take their final two-goal lead with 4:55 remaining in the game. From there, Benedictine got goals from Liam Waldron, Joseph Bianchi – off an assist from Gordon – to tie the game and set up Carson's game-winning goal.
Bianchi won 11 of 15 faceoffs as Benedictine earned 12 overall faceoff wins. Benedictine held a 43-38 advantage in shots with 20 on goal. Bryce Peltier allowed Columbia to stay in front, finishing with 13 saves before giving up the final three goals of the game. Jerry Dalrymple finished with 14 saves of his own in goal for Benedictine.
Carson Huerter led the Ravens with three caused turnovers as the Cougars finished the game with 21 turnovers. Bianchi led the Ravens with eight groundballs while Huerter, Rodriguez, Drew, and Luke Besheer finished with three each.
Benedictine returns to the road on Thursday, traveling to Quincy, Ill., to take on NCAA Div. II Adams State University at Quincy University before opening up Heart play at 4 p.m. Saturday with Missouri Valley College.
