CANTON, Mo. – Softball bounced back on Sunday with a sweep over Culver-Stockton College on the road.
After having their Heart openers moved up to Friday at William Penn where the Statesmen earned a sweep, Benedictine took two from Culver 10-0 and 5-2 on Sunday.
The Ravens exploded for 8 runs in the top of the third inning in the opener with the Wildcats. Clare Heitz got the scoring started with a 2-RBI single scoring Madison Zaccardo and Natalie Sheffield. From there, the Ravens scored on doubles from Rilee Bell, Chloe Strickland, Halley Random and Megan Medhus.
Lacey Foster got the start inside the circle for the Ravens. She threw three innings, holding the Wildcats to just a single hit before Bailey Selvage finished off the game over the final two innings, no hitting the Wildcats.
Medhus and Sheffield finished with two hits at the plate for the Ravens. Heitz was joined by Bell and Medhus with 2 RBI each.
In game two, Kera Willoughby earned the start for the Ravens. She threw the first 5 innings, giving up 2 runs off 3 hits with 3 strikeouts before Abby Pressgrove and Selvage came in to shut the game out. The duo combined to no-hit the Wildcats over the final 2 innings with Selvage throwing the seventh inning to earn the save.
The Ravens spread their runs out over the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings. Zaccardo hit a solo home run in the fourth to give the Ravens a 4-0 lead. Kassidy James went 3 for 4 at the plate as the Ravens finished with 9 hits. Ali Pickering went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a double while Zaccardo went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Medhus finished with 2 RBI while Natalie Sheffield and Strickland added an RBI each.
The Ravens host Mount Mercy University at 1 p.m. Saturday on Ravens Field before closing the weekend with another Heart doubleheader with Clarke University at 1 p.m. Sunday.
