Sunday sweep over Evangel leads to 3-1 series win for Baseball

Baseball continued Heart play over the weekend as they hosted Evangel University for the final time as a member of the conference on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium.

The Valor opened up the series with a 9-7 9-inning win on Saturday before the Ravens rattled off three straight splitting Saturday's series with a 5-3 win and then picking up a Sunday sweep, 4-1 and 5-2.

Game 1: Evangel 9, Benedictine 7 (9 innings)
The Valor scored 2 runs in the top of the ninth inning after the Ravens rallied with a 4-run seventh inning to start off the series with a 2-run win.

Evangel scored 3 runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-3 lead over Benedictine. A 3-run home run from Danny Favazza and a solo home run from Theo Kummer tied the game at 7-7.

Nelson Klein threw the first 4 innings for the Ravens on the hill. He was followed by Ben DeLaForest, Lance Bolles, Dominic Susanka, and Ethan Arnold finished out the game. Susanka suffered the loss.

At the plate, the Ravens finished with 10 hits. Kummer went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and a double white Tyler Marchand added another RBI.

Game 2: Benedictine 5, Evangel 3
Jackson Sarver went the distance on the hill for the Ravens as he allowed 1 earned run off 6 hits with 8 strikeouts as Benedictine earn a split on Saturday. 

Benedictine scored all 5 of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for the win. Chase Pearson tripled to score Skyler Specht, Brylan Haas and Jack Harpole before Zac Demos put the Ravens in the lead with a 2-run home run.

Game 3: Benedictine 4, Evangel 1
Sunday, the Ravens scored 3 runs in the third inning to break a 1-1 tie en route to the win.

Ben Bowman earned the start on the hill, going 5 innings. He gave up 1 run off 3 hits before handing the ball to DeLaForest. DeLaForest threw the final 2 innings, holding the Valor scoreless off 2 hits to earn the save.

Ashton Neuman went 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI. Kummer added an RBI while Haas added 2.

Game 4: Benedictine 5, Evangel 2
The Ravens scored 3 runs in the second inning and then held off a late-inning rally to earn the series win over the Valor.

Lance Bolles earned the start on the hill for the Ravens. He threw 4 and third, no-hitting the Valor with 4 strikeouts. DeLaForest threw the final 2 and two-thirds, giving up 2 runs off a hit to earn his second save of the series. 

Harpole led the Ravens at the plate, going 2 for 3. Specht added a double and RBI while Hunter Moffet, Favazza, and Demos finished with an RBI each.

Benedictine returns to the road Saturday to open a 4-game series with (RV) Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo.
