(RV) Men's Lacrosse won their fifth straight on Friday.
Benedictine earned a statement win over (8) Mount Vernon Nazarene University 17-9 to improve to 2-0 in the Heart.
Michael Hogan and Paul Gordon got the scoring started for the Ravens, putting Benedictine up 2-0 inside the first three minutes of the game.
MVNU squared it up with two straight goals of their own before Jordan Rodriguez scored on an assist from Mac Postel Jr. to give Benedictine a 3-2 lead headed to the second quarter.
Benedictine limited MVNU to just one goal in the second quarter and then held the Cougars scoreless from the 8:50 mark of the second quarter to the 11:51 mark of the fourth quarter as they pulled ahead for the win.
After leading 6-3 at the half, the Ravens held the Cougars scored through the third quarter and pushed their lead to 12=3 before the Cougars scored their first goal of the fourth quarter.
That goal by MVNU led to a 3-0 run that was answered by the Ravens with a 4-0 run from Hogan, Rodriguez, Joseph Bianchi and Hogan.
Benedictine finished the game with a 46-27 advantage in shots while winning 21 of 27 faceoffs. Bianchi finished with 18 faceoffs won while adding 11 ground balls.
Rodriguez led the offense for the Ravens with 5 goals and 2 assists. Hogan added 4 goals and 1 assist while Gordon finished with 3 goals. Joey Calabria scored 2 goals with 1 assist while Postel Jr. finished with 1 goal and a team-high 4 assists. Charlee Louree added a goal while James Carson added an assist to round out the Ravens offensive efforts.
Benedictine finished with 8 caused turnovers, led by Drew Doran with 3. Jacob Clipperton went the distance in goal for the Ravens, finishing with 8 saves and 2 ground balls.
The Ravens step out of Heart play for their next two – both on the road – against (RV) Ottawa University on April 4 and Missouri Baptist University on April 6. They will host their regular-season finale on April 15 against (RV) William Penn University at 3 p.m. on Legacy Field.
